Performer Info

Animal Collective: A small, experimental rock collective out of Baltimore, Animal Collective is one of the most promising musical collectives in the US right now. With eight albums produced in eleven years, the group has gained an international fan base that appears in droves on their busy tour dates. Animal Collective has been previewing some new songs at these critically acclaimed tour dates in 2011, which will appear on a new album that is set to record soon.

The collective's members are all connected in roundabout ways through their attendance in various progressive schools around Baltimore, Maryland. Noah Lennox (Panda Bear) and Josh Dibb (Deakin) were friends at the Waldorf School of Baltimore before graduating. Attending the Park School of Baltimore with Dibb was David Portner (Avey Tare), as well as a transfer student named Brian Weitz (Geologist), with whom he shared a love of the band Pavement. After dropping acid and becoming interested in psychedelic music, Dibb introduced Portner and Weitz to Lennox and the quartet began collaborating in different combinations. Despite Portner and Weitz attending school in New York while Dibb and Lennox went off to college in Boston, all four helped produce Lennox's debut, "self-titled" album, Panda Bear, in 1998. After the release, the four would still return to Baltimore over summer break to collaborate and perform tour dates.

It was during one of these summers that Portner asked Lennox to play drums on an album he was working on. Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished was released in 2000 under the name Avey Tare and Panda Bear. Later in 2000, Weitz joined Lennox and Portner at their tour dates and the resulting tracks would make up the majority of the 2001 album, Danse Manatee. Dibb began performing with the group as a whole and soon after they released Campfire Songs in 2003. Sung Tongs was released in 2004 and quickly became the group's breakthrough record. The album received recognition and praise from popular magazines like Mojo and Rolling Stone, as well as Animal Collective's growing fan base at tour dates.

After Weitz returned from one year of graduate studies, the quartet once again rejoined to write song for their hit 2005 album, Feels. After nearly a year long concert schedule, Animal Collective began working on what would become their 2007 album, Strawberry Jam. The album became a huge success, with critics praising the continuation of Animal Collective's direction and evolution. The album's success paled in comparison to the popularity of 2009's Merriweather Post Pavilion, which began receiving rave reviews before the album even released.

Since that time, Animal Collective has released ODDSAC, a visual album which combines the bands music and psychedelic visuals inspired by the songs. Animal Collective can currently be found playing European tour dates in 2011. They are currently in the UK and will continue on to nations like Germany, Belgium, Poland, Italy, and France. On July 7, they'll return to he US to play five tour dates before ending their concert schedule on July 13. Don't miss the opportunity to see a unique and immersive live experience on Animal Collective tour dates in 2011.
